The director of the robot development engineering laboratory in the Tohoku Gakuin University of Japan the Dr. Masaaki Kumagai created this ball balancing robot the video shows the posible use for him. but I thing the nemesis of this little and interesting robot like any other of this kind are the STAIRS.

A stylish fire fighting robot, controlled by Arduino with caterpillars as transport system with infrared distance sensors, scanning surroundings in search of fire to extinguish it with a small fan at the front of his chassis, if his effort to extinguish the flame does not works its activates the panic mode which is get out of there as soon as possible to avoid becoming a pile of melted plastic and toast circuits.
A dragon that wipe out fire... Yep with Arduino you can do anything.

Here an excellent example of use for the Sharp infrared distance sensor GP2Y0A21YK, mounted on the frame of a robot the sensor with the aid of a servomotor (for panning) performs a scan about 180 degrees, then the data is sent from Arduino to an Processing SKETCH written by Cory Barton which captures the data to generate a visual representation like a radar, a truly great little project.

You tink play ping pong with a virtual player with the skill of a professional would be almost impossible but within 100 years, then think again (Well maybe needs a few hundred years more but this is a good start).
Day by day we are impressed with the technology developments in the AI here an example of this, using a webcam to track the ball and a laptop as his brain which also serves as the playing field (yes the game is place in a virtual ping-pong table) and two solenoids to operate as the fingers of the keyboard to move his racket, this virtual ping pong player will kick the ass to anyone.

When we first saw [Jeffrey Nelson]’s G1 based robot we immediately wondered what the transport for the controls was. The G1’s hardware supports USB On-The-Go, but it’s not implemented in Android yet. It turns out he’s actually sending commands by using DTMF tones through the headphone adapter. The audio jack is connected to a DTMF decoder that sends signals to the bot’s Arduino. He wrote client/server code in Java to issue commands to the robot. You can find that code plus a simple schematic on his site. A video of the bot is embedded below.
